Centrifugal Ultrafiltration for Nanomaterials

Centrifugal Ultrafiltration is the recommended method to separate the particulate from the dissolved fraction during Solubility/Dissolution testing of Nanomaterials.
Currently there are several OECD guidance documents and TGs for Nanomaterials in preparation/draft status:
A draft TG on "Determining the Dissolution of Metal Nanomaterials in Aquatic Media" is in preparation based on OECD GD 29.
In this context the “Guidance Document for the testing and interpretation of data on dissolution rate and dispersion stability of nanomaterials for effects and exposure assessment” (DRAFT December 2019) recommends Centrifugal Ultrafiltration in order to separate the particulate from the dissolved fraction during solubility/dissolution testing of Nanomaterials. Ultracentrifugation and dialysis are not recommended for this purpose.
