Revised REACH requirements

The European Commission has revised the information requirements for registering chemicals under REACH. Changes will start to apply 8 January 2022:

Novel Food

China REACH

For China REACH, MEE Order No.12 brings three main changes in the data requirements:

Physico-chemical test data from non-Chinese laboratories are accepted
In-vitro skin and eye irritation studies are accepted if the results are conclusive
Additional requirements based on P and B potential (Persistence and Bioaccumulation), e.g. toxicological data, sediment chironomid test, etc.

COSMOS standards

LAUS could support you with Biodegradability testing to meet the COSMOS requirements and definitions for organic and/or natural cosmetics. For chemically processed agro-ingredients the accepted methods and criteria for biodegradability are:

- OECD 301A, percentage of degradation > 70%

- OECD 301B, OECD 301D, OECD 301F or OECD 310 meet a percentage degradation > 60%

Dissolution in body fluids

LAUS could support you with studies simulating physiological conditions in the gastrointestinal tract after food consumption required by EFSA for Nanomaterials in food. A short simulation of mouth conditions, followed by a gastric phase at a pH of 3 for 2 h and an intestinal phase at a pH of 7 for 2 h in a static set-up provides information for the “risk assessment of the application of nanoscience and nanotechnologies in the food and feed chain” (EFSA Journal 2018;16(7):5327).

Currently we are working on dynamic/flow studies to complement these studies.

GLP status confirmed

We are proud to announce that LAUS has passed the regular inspection by the authorities of the state of Rheinland-Pfalz and our GLP status has been confirmed. The originally appointed date in November 2020 had been postponed due to the pandemic measures. This has been the first on site audit in a GLP laboratory in Rheinland-Pfalz since then. Although it has been conducted under very strict stipulations to avoid any risk of infection, all areas could be inspected without exception.
