OECD 236 Fish Embryo Acute Toxicity
OECD TG 236 Fish Embryo Acute Toxicity (FET) Test is a fully validated and standardized alternative method if you want to avoid animal testing.
Newly fertilized zebrafish (Danio rerio) eggs are exposed to the test chemical for a period of 96 hrs, indicators of lethality are recorded and the LC50 will be calculated.
This endpoint could generally be used in any context where acute fish toxicity data are needed for ecotoxicological assessments and alternative methods are desired or required, e. g. for cosmetics where animal testing is banned. Although the test is not explicitly mentioned in any EU legislation it could be submitted to ECHA in a WoE approach. Contact us if interested, we know about feasibility and potential limitations of the test and would be more than happy to discuss an individual approach.
