The recent decision of the ECHA regarding ethanol in biocidal products: a lab’s perspective

The recent decision of the ECHA regarding ethanol in biocidal products is drawing significant attention and is hard to overlook.

From the perspective of a laboratory providing testing services for biocidal product authorisation, the implications are clear: If the approval finds its way through the European Commission in a draft Implementing Regulation and the vote of EU Member States in the Standing Committee on Biocidal Products, then the Commission formally adopts the decision and it becomes legally binding.

Regulatory clarity comes with data requirements:

  • Companies need to prepare for the application for product authorisation at national level or through Union authorisation.

Early testing strategies save time and cost:

  • Defining testing plans now helps avoid delays in the authorisation process and reduces regulatory risk.

We are well aware that many of our clients already plan ahead, since we have many open testing proposals for ethanol containing biocidal products. Please, feel welcome to ask for an update of your existing quotation or contact us for a new proposal, if you do not already have done so.
