When Metal Corrosion Tests Turn colourful!

von Laus GmbH

Sometimes, laboratory work comes with a splash of colour! 🎨

During our GLP metal corrosion testing according to UN Test C.1 (Chapter 37.4 of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria), we investigate whether a substance causes mass loss or localised corrosion on steel and aluminium surfaces.

Recently, after incubation of the steel plate, a clear blue solution turned green. The one with the aluminium plate stayed blue. Another test item, originally yellow, turned red after contact with steel – and orange after contact with aluminium.

While we focus on the scientific assessment of metal corrosion, and although these colour changes are easily explained, they are among the little things that occasionally make lab work beautiful!🌈

LAUS offers GLP metal corrosion testing according to UN Test C.1 (Chapter 37.4) for reliable transport classification and regulatory compliance.
